Rehab centre in Malaysia: private 90-day residential treatment

If you are looking for a rehab centre in Malaysia, you are probably doing it for someone you love, and doing it fast. Salus is a private addiction treatment centre in Cyberjaya, Selangor: a 90-day residential programme for alcohol and drug dependence, with 24-hour care and medical oversight, therapy matched to the person and a fixed price of RM7,000 per month. This page helps you compare your options.

Signs it may be time to look for a rehab

There is no test, and you do not need to be certain. Families usually start searching when several of these have been true for a while.

  • Promises to cut down or stop have been made, and meant, more than once, and have not held.
  • Work, study or money are suffering: missed days, debts, or belongings sold or borrowed without a clear reason.
  • Sleep, weight or appearance have changed enough that the people closest to them are worried.
  • Stopping, even for a day, brings shaking, sweating, anxiety, low mood or a restless irritability.
  • Earlier help, such as a clinic visit, a counsellor or a stay somewhere else, worked for a while and then slipped.
  • The family has started arranging life around the problem: hiding keys, checking phones, covering for them at work.

How a 90-day stay at Salus works

Every stay starts with understanding the person. In the first days a medical review, a psychiatric assessment and a psychological assessment lead to a diagnosis, and the diagnosis decides the therapy. Care and medical oversight run 24 hours a day, and a Salus Clinician works alongside medical care to plan recovery across six areas of life. The plan is reviewed every week.

01

Assessment on arrival

A medical review, a psychiatric assessment and a psychological assessment. The medical team manages withdrawal safely and comfortably before therapy begins in earnest.

02

Restore, then connect

The first weeks centre on sleep, food, routine and safety. Therapy follows, drawn from SFBT, CBT, REBT, motivational interviewing and trauma-focused work, and family sessions begin.

03

Participate in recovery

Your Salus Clinician plans activity, skills and community across physical, mental, emotional, social, environmental and spiritual life. Progress follows readiness, not the calendar.

04

Integrate and go home

Leaving is planned from the first week. Guests go home with a written aftercare plan and continued support, and families are part of that plan.

What is the difference between private rehab and a government programme?

In Malaysia, government treatment for drug addiction is run by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK). Its voluntary centres, known as PUSPEN S, accept people who come in themselves or are referred by family, friends or employers, and AADK says no legal action is taken against clients who attend. An amendment to the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 took effect on 22 August 2025 and widened access to drug users, not only those who are dependent.

Private residential rehab is the other route. You choose the centre, the length of stay is set in advance, and treatment can cover alcohol and medicines as well as drugs. Neither route is wrong. The right one depends on the person, the substance, how quickly you need to start and what your family can afford.

What should a good addiction treatment centre in Malaysia be able to tell you?

Ask who is clinically responsible for your family member, and ask for a name. Ask what happens in the first three days, who looks after withdrawal, and what happens if someone is unwell at 2am. A serious centre assesses the person before it describes a programme, and answers these questions without hesitation.

Then ask whether low mood, anxiety, trauma and sleep are treated in the same plan, how long the stay is and why, what the fee covers in writing, how families are involved and what support exists after discharge. Finally, ask to visit. Look at where people sleep and eat, and listen to how staff speak to guests.

Is Salus the right place, and can I get there from where I live?

Salus is for people whose drinking, drug use or use of medicines has taken over, often with low mood, anxiety or poor sleep underneath. It suits someone willing to try, even reluctantly after a hard family conversation. If an assessment shows that someone needs hospital care first, for example for dangerous alcohol withdrawal, we will say so.

The retreat is in Cyberjaya, Selangor, south of Kuala Lumpur and near Putrajaya, so families in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya can visit and join family sessions. If you are elsewhere in Malaysia, the first conversation can happen by phone or WhatsApp, and you are welcome to travel with your family member on arrival.

Questions

Questions families ask.

How much does private rehab cost in Malaysia?

RM7,000 per month, all-inclusive, which is about RM21,000 for 90 days and covers accommodation, meals, medical oversight, individual and group therapy, family sessions and aftercare. Private centres vary widely, so ask any centre for its figure in writing and what is left out. Payment plans can be discussed at Salus, and the call is confidential with no obligation.

How long does rehab take, and why 90 days?

The Salus programme is 90 days. The US National Institute on Drug Abuse says most people need at least three months in treatment to reduce or stop use significantly, and that longer stays give better results. Movement through the four phases, Restore, Connect, Participate and Integrate, follows readiness.

Should my family member stop drinking or using before they come?

Please do not stop suddenly before a medical assessment, especially with alcohol or sedative sleeping pills, because withdrawal from these can be dangerous. Call us first. Our medical team manages withdrawal safely and comfortably, and if the assessment shows hospital care is needed before a residential stay, we will tell you.

What if they do not want help?

That is common at the start. You do not need their agreement to call us, and many families phone first. Say what you have seen and how it makes you feel, rather than listing what they have done wrong, and keep the door open. Sometimes a clinician's voice lands differently from a relative's.

What happens after the 90 days?

Leaving is planned from the first week. Guests go home with continued counselling, a support group and a written plan for the months ahead, and families take part in that planning. Your Salus Clinician helps build the routines, activity and community that recovery needs once the person is back in ordinary life.

Is a stay at Salus confidential?

Yes. The first call is confidential and there is no obligation. At the retreat itself, a guest is a guest of the hotel, and the care team alone holds clinical information. Family hear how things are going when the guest agrees.
